You Asked For It

I am very excited to be introducing a new class at CrossFit 613 - Mobility 101!

Mobility is a relatively new specialty for me, but one I have come to really appreciate. It started in late 2012 with the CF Gymnastics L1 Cert and the Ido Portal Movement Experience workshop. These training experiences were very humbling and opened my eyes to the importance of mobility and learning to control the body in movement.

This training has had excellent benefits for me. As someone who is now in his 50’s, I understand the importance of developing and maintaining my natural movement patterns to ensure a healthy body in my later years. Aging is a state of deterioration. When people lose the ability to move naturally and freely, that is when they get “old”. I often see people in their 30’s and 40’s with very poor movement and wonder what they will look like in their later years.

However, mobility is not only important for people as they age. Everyone can benefit from spending some quality time training this on a regular basis. Increasing both range of motion and strength in all tissues of the body is very important for athletic performance.

Good mobility will allow you to get into the best position for a movement and will allow you further strength gains, perhaps even a new PR! More importantly, it will reduce the wear and tear on your body and the risk of injury. Imagine … moving dynamically with tight tissues is like driving your car with the hand brake on!

I look forward to helping people recover or improve their ability to move more freely and encourage participation as much as possible.

Mobility 101 is held every Thursday morning at 6am.
